Households, some of whom fell back into poverty during the pandemic, will see real incomes shrink further as prices rise. The region’s struggling firms, more than 50% of which reported payment arrears in 2021, will be hit by new supply and demand shocks. The rest of the region is anticipated to expand 4.8% in 2022, 0.4 of a percentage point less than the previous outlook, and 4.2% in a downside scenario. China’s economy is forecast to expand by 5% in 2022, 0.4 of a percentage point less than forecast in October, and 4% in a low case scenario. If global conditions worsen and national policy responses are weak, growth could slow to 4%. Growth is now projected at 5% in 2022, down from 5.4% projected in October. are having an impact on developing East Asia and Pacific (EAP)’s economic recovery. They interact with states and other international actors, pursue objectives that are often intertwined with global economic agendas, and are crucial to questions related to climate change, mobility and migration, technological innovation, economic development and infrastructure. Global cities play an increasingly important role at the global and regional level: From Asia to Africa, from South and North America to Europe, large urban centers enjoy significant competitive advantages and serve as primary nodes in the globalized economic system.
